Waggoners Lead Breeders for Second Straight Year

High Brow Cat owners Jack and Susan Waggoner, Bridgeport, Texas, are more than pleased with their breeding program with the phenomenal cutting horse sire, High Brow Cat in the spotlight. The leading sire propelled them to leading breeder status six times in the last eight years accompanied by their other successful stallions, Cats Red Feather, Smart Aristocrat, Pretty Boy Cat and Tumbleweed Smith.

Cutting horses bred by the Waggoner Ranch earned $749,461 during the 2005 season. High income performers included Cat T Masterson, $84,922; Sultress, $42,490; Outlaw Cat AKA Jack, $41,022; Royally Smart Cat, $36,799; Aristo Rose, $34,872; Cat Of Monte Cristo, $34,696; Aristo Katz, $29,002; Cat Dancer RD (PT), $27,590; Flickacat, $26,626; and Cat Smart, $25,912.

Cat T Masterson, owned by the Waggoners and ridden by Tag Rice, began his career as a finalist at the NCHA Futurity. In 2005, he won the Gully Memorial and the Bonanza Cutting. The stallion, by High Brow Cat out of Pretty Lean Chick by Doc O’Lena, was reserve at the Memphis Futurity, a finalist at the Augusta Futurity and semifinalist at the NCHA Derby. He won the prestigious Western Horseman’s Cup Open Championship in 2006.

Sultress, also owned by the Waggoners but trained by Paul Hansma, was a semifinalist at the NCHA Futurity. As a 4-year-old, the daughter of Dual Pep out of Cats Sultana by High Brow Cat was an NCHA Super Stakes, NCHA Derby and Music City finalist. Tommy Marvin, 2005 NCHA Futurity Open Champion, shows Outlaw Cat AKA Jack for owner Rodney Sharp, Yellville, Arkansas. By High Brow Cat out of Little Smashed by Peppy San Badger, “Jack” was a multiple derby finalist including placing eighth at the NCHA Super Stakes and 16th at the NCHA Derby.

Royally Smart Cat, now 7, began his last year of eligibility as a finalist at Abilene under Ronnie Rice, who rode the horse to the finals at the NCHA Super Stakes. For new owner Mark Broeckel, Chico, California, the gelding, by High Brow Cat out of Royally Smart Fancy by Smart Little Lena, placed third in the Non-Pro 5/6 Division and won the amateur at the Northwest Futurity.

Broeckel also rode his horse to amateur championships at Idaho, Wine Country, Suncoast and the PCCHA Futurity. Trainer Todd Bimat qualified Royally Smart Cat to the Open finals at the Suncoast and rode him to the Fireworks Pro Am Championship at the PCCHA Futurity.
